Oxy-fuel welding or cutting gases need to be released at the proper pressure, an Oxyacetylene regulator is installed on the tanks to reduce the PSI to the proper level for cutting and welding. The Oxyacetylene regulator also controls the rate of gas flow.
Most modern regulators work with a two stage system, the initial stage dispenses the gas at a set rate from the storage cylinder, then the second stage handles the pressure reduction. On a two stage system, the device has two pressure gauges. One gauge tells how much gas is remaining in the cylinder, and the other tells the pressure of the gas being released.
On an oxyacetylene welding setup, you typically have one set of gauges to regulate the oxygen, these are called the oxygen regulators. Another setup, the acetylene regulators controls the flow of acetylene gas.
